Established in 1872, Sokol Baltimore is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting personal and community health by offering affordable gymnastics, fitness, educational and cultural activities for all ages.

  • Sokol, Czech for falcon, is the mascot and name of a worldwide network of fitness, cultural, social and educational organizations.

  • Sokol is based on the credo, a sound mind in a sound body.

  • Miroslav Tyrs founded Sokol in "Bohemia" (modern day Prague) in 1862.

  • Czech immigrants originally brought Sokol to Baltimore in 1872 as a way to maintain a sense of community in a new country.

  • It has evolved into a community organization for Baltimore City that is proud to welcome students and members from diverse cultures and backgrounds.

 The Sokol Baltimore mission is to guide its members throughout life to physical and moral health, good citizenship, and cultural appreciation.  We focus equally on individual effort, group cooperation, and commitment to our community.
