Sokol, Czech for falcon, is the mascot and name of a worldwide network of fitness, cultural, social and educational organizations.
Sokol is based on the credo, a sound mind in a sound body.
Miroslav Tyrs founded Sokol in "Bohemia" (modern day Prague) in 1862.
Czech immigrants originally brought Sokol to Baltimore in 1872 as a way to maintain a sense of community in a new country.
It has evolved into a community organization for Baltimore City that is proud to welcome students and members from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
